Policing Priorities
Determining Policing Priorities for An Garda Síochána
The PCSA has a statutory function to determine Policing Priorities for An Garda Síochána. These Priorities establish what the PCSA wants An Garda Síochána to give the most attention to in any given period. They assist the Garda Commissioner in identifying areas that require extra focus and/or investment of resources to improve the service delivered to the public and the enhancement of the Garda organisation.
The current Priorities, which were set by the Policing Authority for 2022-2024 and extended to cover 2025 are:
- Protecting and Supporting Victims and the Vulnerable
- Supporting and Ensuring Community Safety
- Tackling Organised and Serious Crime
- Rights Based and Ethical Service Delivery
- Development of the Capacity to Strategically Manage Garda Resources
The PCSA is currently developing new Policing Priorities for the period 2026-2028, which will be published in due course.
